Computer Use On Children

With the advent and evolution of modern digital computer, people from all walks of life have resorted to using these for various reasons. But the utilization of modern computer, especially by children, may leave certain impacts on their development and behavior. These impacts may be long-term or short-term in nature depending on the family values and child-rearing practices adopted by their parents.While most of us will agree that computers for children at home are both educational and entertaining tools, kids may be adversely affected if not properly guided. Their social and cognital developments may be dampened. As such, they will exhibit certain behaviors that are violent in nature thereby affecting their mental health as well. That is why, the use of modern computers by children should be supervised in order to prevent the occurrence of such problems.Recent studies show that playing too much computer games that are extremely violent may influence the child to become violent in dealing with others. Likewise, too much internet browsing may yield to depression and loneliness. These are only some of the bad effects of computer use on children. It is essential therefore, that more research should be done to maximize the good effects and minimize the ill effects of using computers for both adults and children.
